John G. "Greg" Fleckenstein

John "Greg" Fleckenstein was born May 12, 1920 in Duluth, Minnesota to LuLu and Frank Fleckenstein. He served in the Army in the European Theatre during World War II. On his return home, he married Lorene, declaring later that he won the lottery when she said yes. He worked as a chemical engineer for Dow Chemical, Kurth Malting and Milprint, and was granted seven patents during his career. Greg was proud of his service at Calvary Lutheran as church deacon, treasurer, council member, and confirmation teacher. He was a devoted father and volunteered in many of the activities his sons pursued. Although no one heard him singing along, he even encouraged his oldest son's rock band to practice in the basement. Greg was a skilled carpenter and winemaker. He and Lorene will be remembered as inquisitive, kind-hearted friends of all they met. They were world travelers, skilled needle workers, and dog lovers, as well as loving parents and grandparents. His college yearbook said Greg never missed a dance.
