Warren "Blackie" Pouwels, age 87, Green Bay, went to his Heavenly home on Thursday, October 2, 2014. He was born August 8, 1927 to the late Henry and Vivian (Conley) Pouwels in De Pere, Wisconsin. Warren served his country in the U. S. Navy during World War II. On November 8, 1947 he married Lorraine "Larry" Baran at St. Willebrord Catholic Church in Green Bay. She preceded him in death on July 18, 1984. He had been employed by Red Owl for 30 years and retired in 1986. After his retirement, Warren helped his son, Don run the Stardust Bar. He enjoyed woodworking, feeding the birds and was a regular customer at Vieaux's Bar. Warren was known as "The Candy Man" because he made chocolate covered peanuts, cookies and cakes; many of which were donated to Cornerstone Church for their fellowship after the service. Survivors include his three children, Don and Kathy Pouwels of Howard; Rick Pouwels and his fianceé, Sarah Thompson of Crooked Lake and Terri and Walter Remic, Jr. of Crooked Lake; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Delores "Mitzi" Pouwels, Pat Boehm and Linda (Alvin) Ullman; a brother-in-law, David (Colleen) Baran; good friends an...[more]

neighbors, Leo and Eunice King. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. Warren was preceded in death by two brothers, Al and Llwellyn "Red" Pouwels. Visitation will be held on Monday, October 6, 2014, from 4 to 7 pm at Lyndahl Funeral Home, 1350 Lombardi Avenue, where the funeral service will take place at 7 pm with Pastor Dennis Toyne officiating. Full military honors will follow. Burial will take place at Fort Howard Memorial Park. Online condolences may be expressed at www.lyndahl.com.
