Edna Schaefer Mrs. Edna Schaefer, formerly of Port Washington, passed away Milan Estates in Saukville on Monday morning, October 6, 2014. She was 101 years old. Edna was born in Grafton on September 23, 1913, daughter of Louis and Clara Schwengel Meyer. She grew up in Grafton and attended local schools, graduating with high honors in the Class of 1931. On September 9, 1939 Edna was united in marriage with Raymond Schaefer at St. John's Lutheran Church in Port Washington. The couple settled in Port Washington and raised their family. He preceded her in death in 2007. Mrs. Schaefer had various jobs before becoming a well-known seamstress and owning the local Julie Ann Pin Cushion fabric store in downtown Port. She ran the store for more than 20 years before retiring in the 1980's. Edna was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Port Washington, and enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting and crafts. She was an avid reader, and while her husband was alive they traveled extensively as a couple. rvived by six grandchildren: Tim (Marcia) Splinter, Dan (Sarah) Splinter, Kristy (John) Truax, Scott Heuerman, John Heuerman and Michael (Michele) Mallinger, 7 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandson, sister-in-law Elenore Schaefer nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband Ray, daughter Judy Mallinger, 2 brothers and 3 sisters. Funeral Services will be held at 4PM on Sunday, October 12th at St. John's Lutheran Church, 217 Freeman Drive, Port Washington. Pastor John Klieve will preside. She will be laid to rest beside her husband the following day at Union Cemetery in Port Washington. The family will receive visitors on Sunday at the CHURCH from 2:30 PM until the time of service at 4PM. Memorials are suggested to St. John's Lutheran Church.
