Shirley Jean Small WAPELLO, Iowa -- Shirley Jean Small, 79, of Wapello, died Saturday morning, October 25, 2014, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington. Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 29, 2014, at the United Methodist Church in Wapello. The Rev. Pam Kranzler will officiate. Burial will follow at the Wapello Cemetery and a lunch will follow at the United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. Cremation will follow a private family viewing and the family will meet friends from 5 until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 28, 2014, at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello. A memorial fund has been established for the benefit of the United Methodist Church and the Wapello Community Ambulance Service. Shirley was born on April 18, 1935, on a farm near West Point, the daughter of Jennings and Helen DeLashmutt Myers. She married Harold Small on April 6, 1957, at the Methodist Church in Burlington. She attended public school in West Point and graduated from Donnellson High School. She was a homemaker and farm wife. the Order of Eastern Star. Shirley enjoyed attending school activities of her granddaughters, mushrooming, quilting, working in her flowers and the University of Iowa Hawkeyes football. Her family includes her husband, Harold Small; a son, Robert Small and wife, Leslie, of Wapello; two granddaughters, Kara Hammer and husband, Tony, and Kaitlyn Small; a great-granddaughter, Averie; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Pamela in 1995; her sister, Genevieve Boeding; and two brothers, Austin and Paul Myers.
