Shirley A. Wersinger, 79, of Cherokee, Iowa, formerly of Ponca passed away at Countryside Estates in Cherokee on October 26, 2009.
Graveside services will be at the Ponca City Cemetery on November 8, 2009. There will be visitation at Salem Lutheran Church in Ponca at 1:30 P.M. with the burial at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. Dr. Neal Anthony officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Boothby Funeral Home and Mohr Funeral Home in Ponca.
Shirley was born November 7, 1929 at Newcastle Nebraska to Oscar and Anna (Birkley) Gunderson. She graduated from Ponca High School in 1948. She married Leonard Wersinger in August, 1961. She was a nurses’ aide at Lutheran Hospital and several Cherokee nursing homes.
She loved to crochet and work jigsaw puzzles.
Survivors include three sons, Keith and Sue of Bondurant, Iowa, Paul of Fort Dodge, Iowa, David of Cherokee, Iowa; two daughters, Denise and Roy Williams of Newton, Iowa and Lisa Wersinger of Cherokee, Iowa; three sisters, Norma Whitman of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Bertha Mae Kaspar of Denver, Colorado, Opal Olson of Lincoln, Nebraska; three grandchildren, Roy Williams, Joseph and Blaisze Wersinger and two step-grandchildren, C...[more]

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Colt Wersinger; brothers, Randall and Roy Gunderson and sisters, Amy Lamprecht and Dettee Kaspar Durand.
