Russell Whitford, a resident of Hollywood, Florida for sixty-nine years, passed away Wednesday, November 19, 2014. He is survived by his wife of sixty-eight years, one son and daughter-in-law, two grandchildren, and a daughter. Preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters, Russell also leaves behind four brothers, two sisters, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Russell was a member of the Hollywood Bible Chapel for sixty-eight years. He spent thirty-two years with the City of Hollywood as a streets and parks supervisor. He also worked as a greens and field consultant to the New York Yankees and Chicago White Soxes during their spring training time in Hollywood.
Russell was a World War II veteran who served in both the European and Pacific campaigns. Two of the most important medals that he was awarded were the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal with a Bronze Service Star and the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal.
Russell was well known for his gardening talents. His tomato and orchid plants are in full bloom now. He was quite the story teller and loved to tease.
