Mr. William "Bill" Garrold Simmons, 69, of Mount Pleasant, died Saturday November 29, 2014, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.
Mr. Simmons was born December 13, 1951 in Burlington, the son of Ervin "Pete" and Mabel Scherer Simmons. On March 17, 1973 at Burlington he married Shirley Brunken. They later divorced. He was a graduate of New London High school 1970 and attended Iowa State University.
Mr. Simmons was a self-employed farmer and worked at CeCo for many years. He was a member of all Saddle Clubs in the area, Southeast Iowa Officials Association, and a 4H leader for many years. He enjoyed showing horses, fishing, hunting, basketball, breakfast at Caseys, and watching his grandson Jacob play sports.
He is survived by one son, Chad (Kelley) Simmons of Mount Pleasant; one daughter, Sarah (Steve) Cassiday of New London; one grandson; one brother, David (Jane) Simmons of New London; cousins, nieces, and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents.
