George "Bud" Staley

George Harry Staley passed away on Monday, December 8, 2014. Known as "Bud" by his family and many friends, he was born in Braddock, Pennsylvania on March 22, 1944 to the late George Franklin and Ethel Soles Staley. After graduating high school, Bud moved to Hollywood, Florida. In 1962, Bud met his soul mate, partner and the absolute love of his life, Sandra Michele "Shelli" Starck. On May 16, 1965, Bud and Shelli were married and enjoyed nearly fifty years together. Bud served his country in the Florida Army National Guard from 1965-1977 and obtained the rank of Staff Sergeant. In 1992, Bud proudly began serving as a Crime Scene Investigator with the City of Hollywood Police Department. In 2004, the HPD recognized Bud as Employee of the Year for outstanding performance of duty. Bud retired from the Hollywood Police Department in April, 2005 as Crime Scene Unit Supervisor and later that same month, began serving as Crime Scene Manager with the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office. t Forensics Association. Bud retired from Palm Beach County in January, 2012. Prior to his career in law enforcement, Bud worked at Eastern Airlines. During his time with Eastern, he served in Materiel Distribution and support at the airline's base at Miami International Airport. He also served as a labor representative, first as a Shop Steward and later as Chief Steward with the local International Association of Machinists Union. In addition to his wife Shelli, Bud is survived by his son Kevin Staley, his daughter Tiffany Staley, his niece Kimberly Pavlik, his niece Deborah Pavlik, beloved golden retriever Cassie along with many, many friends who miss him dearly. Bud received a plaque upon retiring from PBSO with an inscription that spoke to success during his career, but could just as easily speak to his life. "If we measure success by the number of lives we touch and the ways that we reach out to others and truly make a difference, then it's hard to imagine a life richer than yours." We could not have asked for a finer husband, father, and friend. On Sunday, December 14 a visitation will be held at 1:00 p.m. with a memorial service to follow at 2:00 p.m. at Fred Hunter Funeral Home - 6301 Taft Street in Hollywood.
