Laura Mae Tempel

Laura Mae Schaa, daughter of Adolph and Dena Greenfield Schaa was born on September 14, 1920 in Kamrar, Iowa. She attended rural schools in the Liberty and Lyon Townships, and graduated from Webster City Lincoln High School in 1938. In 1940, she graduated from Webster City Junior College and taught in rural schools for several years. On November 1, 1941, she married Richard Tempel at the First Presbyterian Church at Kamrar. The couple farmed southeast of Webster City for over 30 years. They moved to Webster City in 1961. In 1967, she graduated from Drake University receiving a B.S. degree in elementary education. Laura taught at Northeast Hamilton for 20 years. Mr. Tempel died June 1, 1993. After retirement, she was a volunteer working with the Hamilton Hospital Auxiliary in the Gift Shop. She had resided at Crestview Senior Living for the past two years. Mrs. Tempel is survived by daughters and son-in-law, Carolyn and Don Moore of Hampton; Marilyn Tempel of Overland Park, KS; grandchildren, Greg and Bradi Moore of Hampton; great-granddaughter, Avery Moore; sister-in-law, Dolores Schaa of Webster City; several nieces and nephews. r husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Seymour Schaa and sisters, Iona Schaa and Evelyn Jansen. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, served on the Deaconess board, helped with the Kids Club, was on the Christian Education Board, attended the Alathean Class, was a member of the Bernice and Rogers Circles and was a R.S.V.P. member. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the First Baptist Church or the American Heart Association.
