George H. LeMieux

George Harvey LeMieux, 73, passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 6, 2015. He was the second child of six children born to Harvey and Anne LeMieux of Waterbury, Connecticut. The family moved to Fort Lauderdale in 1951. George was a graduate of Fort Lauderdale High School, class of 1959. He married Karen Huckestein of Hollywood, Florida in 1968. George worked as a general contractor and President of LeMieux Construction for more than 40 years. He built commercial buildings and dozens of luxury homes throughout Broward and Palm Beach counties and beyond, including homes in Florida and California for McDonald's founder Ray Kroc. George was a life-long car enthusiast whose devotion to hot rodding started in high school. He helped found the South Florida Street Rods Club and was known throughout Florida by the car and racing communities. George is survived by his beloved wife Karen LeMieux; his sisters Elaine Garet and Denise Miles, his brothers Robert LeMieux, Richard LeMieux and wife Linda, and Peter LeMieux; his son, U.S. Senator George LeMieux, daughter-in-law, Meike LeMieux, and the four grandchildren he loved beyond compare: Max, Taylor, Chase and Madeleine. ation will be Sunday, January 11, 2015 from 3:00 pm-6:00 pm at Fred Hunter's Funeral Home, 718 S. Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale. A funeral mass will follow on Monday, January 12, 2015 at 10:00 am at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, 901 NE 2nd Street, Fort Lauderdale. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in George's name to: Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) clinical research program at the University of San Francisco.
