Jack (John) Edward Goodwin Jack passed peacefully Wednesday January 21st, 2015 surrounded by love, friendship and music at Gables on the Pond, Random Lake, WI Jack was born March 1, 1938 in Rock Hill, South Carolina, the son of John Edward and Sara Elizabeth Sharp Goodwin. Jack grew up in South Carolina. He graduated from Spartanburg State High School, Spartanburg SC in 1955. He attended Eastern New Mexico University, and earned a Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Arizona Tucson in 1959.He attended Valparaiso University and earned a Masters in Music / Cello performance from Southern Illinois University Carbondale 1968. Jack is survived by 3 children: Margaret Goodwin of Port Washington, currently a Ripon College freshman, John Goodwin III of Bremerton, WA, Julia Goodwin (Martin Mulford) of Corvallis, OR. Ex-wife Kay Goodwin of Port Washington. Grandchildren: Hester (Nick) Klinke of IL, Nicholas Goodwin of WA, Tim Jones of OR, Katherine (Khanh) Jones WA and Justin Mulford, of OR. He is further survived by nieces and nephews: Ben (Sharon) Goodwin & family, OK, Sara (Dave Johnson) Goodwin, OR, John Biskup TX, Andy (Jen) Zalewski OR, Jill (Nick) Giovas & sons, Brian (Cori Roach) Zalewski & Ziggy. Jack played cello in the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra for 35 years, retiring in 2006. He toured with Mitch Miller with the MSO. Jack toured with the MSO to Europe, Japan, Cuba, Dominican Republic, and many locations in the U.S. The MSO played Carnegie Hall for many years. Jack taught cello at Valparaiso University and was a member of the Faculty String Quartet (1964-1965). He played with orchestras in Texas, Memphis, and .others before joining the MSO. Jack played with the Sheboygan Symphony Orchestra for a few years after his MSO retirement. Jack taught at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music and UW Oshkosh for many years. He was an avid bicyclist, hiker and cross country skier for most of his life. Jack enjoyed motorcycle rides across the U.S. and Canada. He hiked across England following the path that John Hillaby took. He hiked parts of the Grand Canyon and the Alps. (www.upaf.org). A Celebration of Jack's Life will be held on Sunday, March 1, 2015 at the Patio Hall, 601 N. Wisconsin Street, Port Washington, WI from 2:00 - 6:00. Jack's family wants to thank all the staff at Gables on the Pond and Hospice Advantage for their wonderful care, concern, love and support of Jack. He truly had a cherished family at Gables.
