Of Menomonee Falls, passed quickly away in the early hours of January 23, 2015, at age 51. He was a devoted father and dedicated husband who lived fiercely with ALS for nearly 15 years in an extraordinarily matter-of-fact, graceful way. It is likely Doug was too busy living to notice what an inspiration he was to others. Even as ALS ravaged his body, he quietly refused to be consumed by what was consuming him. His razor-sharp mind, hearty sense of humor, insatiable curiosity, thoughtful engagement in the world around him, and abiding appetite for the finer pleasures of life - all remained. Doug was born on September 13, 1963, in Milwaukee, to Mary Don and Larry Turley. He lived in New York and Oklahoma before moving to Whitewater, Wisconsin, where he graduated from high school in 1981. He graduated from UW-Whitewater in 1986 with a degree in physics and mathematics, and spent the next 17 years as an electronics engineer in Milwaukee. s owned, a 1952 MG. He moved whatever personal mountains necessary to be at Ian's games, including a week of them at the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY. He served happily as chief homework supervisor and master of financial affairs, living gratefully for every day as Ian's dad and Rebecca's partner. Doug was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his wife and beloved son, his mother, his brother, Brian (Tammie) Turley of Jefferson, WI, and his sister, Lorrie (Tom) Redfield of Merrillville, IN, as well as many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 6:30 pm on Tuesday, January 27, 2015, at Krause Funeral Home, 21600 West Capitol Drive, Brookfield, WI, with visitation from 5:00 pm until the time of service. A celebration of Doug's life, with snacks and beverages, will follow from 7:00-9:00 pm.
