Hammond, Kenneth F., Sr. SUN PRAIRIE - Kenneth F. Hammond, Sr., age 80, died on Friday, January 23, 2015. Born in Madison, WI he was later adopted by the Hammond family of Cottage Grove. Ken married Jean Sutton on August 8, 1955. He was a 1952 graduate of Madison East High School and received a Diploma from Columbia County Normal School in 1954. In 1964, he received his BS degree from Whitewater State Teacher's College and a Master's degree from UW-Whitewater in 1968. He achieved additional credits from UW-Whitewater and UW-Madison in Education Administration. Ken taught rural school at Pyburn, near Marshall, and in Albion. He taught elementary classes in Prairie du Sac, Oregon, Cottage Grove and Sun Prairie. He was Assistant Principal at Sun Prairie Junior High; Principal at Northside Elementary and Athletic Director at Sun Prairie High School retiring in 1991. He is survived by sons Ken Jr. (Pam), Dan (Lynn) of Kansas, daughters Valerie, Jennifer (Gary) along with 6 grandchildren Emilee, Katie, Hillary, Dan Jr., Kenny & Kayla; 6 great grandchildren Dylan, Jackson, Ty, Brody, Harper & Jeremiah; a sister Delma of California.He was preceded in death by his wife Jean, adoptive parents Robert & Edith Hammond of Cottage Grove and birth parents Kenneth F. Weinke, Sr. & Lucy (Bolick) Crane. A Memorial Service for Ken will be held Wednesday January 28, 2015 at 1:00 pm at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, 550 Lincoln Drive in Sun Prairie with Reverend Richard Blomker officiating. Visitation will be held from 4: 00 pm to 7:00 pm Tuesday January 27, 2015 at Cress Funeral home, 1310 Emerald Terrace, Sun Prairie and from 12:00 pm until time of service at the church.
