Maxine "Mickey" Walker

Maxine Joan Walker, the daughter of Ferdinand and Teresa (Reilly) Brethorst, was born May 3, 1927, in Sexton, Iowa. Mickey was raised on her parents' farm in Sexton and graduated from Algona High School in 1944. On August 17, 1947, she was united in marriage to Raymond E. Walker. The couple moved to a farm just north of Algona, and raised their family. Mickey loved living on the farm. She felt there was a calming rhythm to the sounds it made. Mickey was also very proud of her family farm in Sexton and would often request that they drive by so she could see it. Mickey enjoyed helping children and was a long time Sunday School teacher. When wintering in Texas, she also volunteered at the local school to help children with reading. Mickey was always selfless of her time. If there was something she could do for someone or volunteer for some cause, she would. Other interests include cats, windmills, the moon, dancing, reflexology, and yoga. Most of all, she loved her family and the time she spent with them. She was truly happy in her life, and will always be remembered as having a warm heart who would make anyone feel welcome. Mickey is survived by her children David (Sandy) Walker of Tempe, AZ, Jane (John) Camp of Osceola, IA, and Gary (Laurel) Walker of Algona, five grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, sisters Dorothy Fitzpatrick of West Bend, IA, Harriet Roycraft of Minneapolis MN, and Nancy (Ken)Klucas of Minneapolis, MN, and brothers Harold (Kathy) of Brandon, MN, and John (Ardys) of Chokio, MN as well and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant son Gerald, sister Shirley Keeler, and brothers-in-law Jim Fitzpatrick and George Roycraft.
