Thomas (Tom) G. Voss, 91, died peacefully at the Lutheran Community Home on March 6, 2015. Tom was preceded in death by his parents C. F. Walter Voss and Helen Graham Galbraith Voss, his brother F. Walter "Bud" Voss and his sister Barbara Jean Voss Robertson. Also deceased is Tom's wife of 54 years, Rachel Veit Voss. Tom is survived by his wife of 13 years, Doris Huber Tormoehlen Voss; a son Richard (Laurie) Voss; a daughter Suzanne (Bill) Montgomery; 2 stepsons, Mike (Barb) Tormoehlen and Joe (Robin) Tormoehlen. Tom and Doris have enjoyed their many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Tom's nieces and nephews include Kieffer (Marcia) Voss, Helen Lee Voss Thomas, Jim (Jane) Robertson and Molly Robertson. Tom was born on Sept. 21, 1923 in Seymour, IN. He was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church. After graduating from Seymour High School, he earned a B.S. degree in Business from Indiana University and later became a Certified Public Accountant. Tom served in WWII as a First Lieutenant, European Theatre, Asiatic Pacific and Army of Occupation, Japan. He is a life member of the American Legion. was appointed to the State Board of Embalmers and Funeral Directors in 1966. He worked briefly with George S. Olive Company in Indianapolis before being elected Director of the Seymour National Bank in 1966, Trust Officer of the bank in 1967, and President from 1970 - 1986. Tom served as a Director of the Louisville Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis 1973 - 1978, President of the Indiana Bankers Association 1977 - 1978 and a Director of the Board of the American Bankers Association 1976 - 1979. Tom was active in community service and received the 1988 Seymour Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year award. He served as a member of the Board of Directors for the Chamber; President of the Board of Trustees for the Seymour Public Library Trustees Association; President of the Seymour Aviation Commission; original Board member for the Jackson County Industrial Development Corp.; Board member for the Community Foundation of Jackson County; Member of the Seymour Community Middle School Corp. and the Seymour Economic Development Commission; Board member for Habitat for Humanity; Volunteer for the Jackson County Hospice and the literary program. Tom earned the distinction of being the oldest living member of the Seymour BPO Elks. Tom will be remembered as a community leader, a loyal friend and a devoted family man. He lived with integrity and purpose. His curiosity led him to travel throughout the world and study many cultures, religions and philosophies. He was a voracious reader and kept up with advances in computer technology. He had an appreciation for art, music and theater. Tom was passionate about golf and played his last game at the age of 88, still able to shoot his age. His family and friends will cherish their memories of this special man who embraced life with passion, gratitude and humility. Visitation will be at Voss and Sons Funeral Home on Wed., March 11 from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. and on Thurs., March 12 from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. A celebration of life service will begin at 10:00 a.m. and a private family burial will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations made to the F.W. Voss and Tom G. Voss Boys and Girls Club Trust, Jackson County Community Foundation or to a charity of choice.
