Edith Knepfel, of Saukville, passed away in the evening hours of Thursday, March 26, 2015 at Heritage Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Port Washington. She was 80 years old. Edith was born on July 18, 1934, in Shawano, daughter of Robert Engel Sr. and Gertrude Gralow Engel. She grew up on the family dairy farm, and enjoyed participating in many 4-H activities including showing dairy cattle. She also liked playing piano and the saxophone. Edith graduated from Shawano High School in 1952. She continued her education at the University of Wisconsin - Madison and received her Bachelors in Education in 1956. Edith taught home economics at the high school level. On June 2, 1962 she married Allen Knepfel at the Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashua, IA. The couple moved to Saukville in 1963. Edith was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ where she helped in the church office. She was also was active as a leader in 4-H and the Gals for Good Government. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening and assisting her husband Allen with his Coast Guard Auxiliary activities. She is further survived by three step-children: Charlotte Knepfel of Kohler, Christine Harder of Sauk City and Charles (Dana) Knepfel of Kekoskee, 11 grandchildren: Cynthia, Karen, Anna, Allen, Courtney, Paul, Audrey, Robert, Marietta, Anja and Elizabeth, her brother Robert (Bonnie) Engel Jr. of Shawano, brothers-in-law William Knepfel of Kiel and Harold (the late Barbara) Sinner of Elkhart Lake and sister Helen (James) Kuhfuss of Sheboygan Falls, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Allen, and her step-daughter Cynthia Yapp. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 7th at 6 PM at St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Saukville. Rev. Brian Damrow will preside. Visitation will precede the service on the 7th from 4-6 PM. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in Union Cemetery in Saukville. Memorials suggested to St. Peter's United Church of Christ or the Ozaukee County 4-H Foundation. The Eernisse Funeral Home, Port Washington is honored to serve the family.
