Stanley Harry Fisher

Stanley H. Fisher of Burlington, Iowa lost his heroic battle with cancer on Thanksgiving Day, November 26, 2009. Stan was born in Burlington, Iowa on March 27, 1921 to the late Harry Fisher and Catherine Brockelman Fisher. A graduate of Burlington High School, he served in the Armed Forces initially in Reno, Nevada where he underwent training in chemical warfare. He subsequently was stationed in England during World War II with the task of loading bombs on B-17's. He was discharged on January 30, 1946. On February 20, 1946 he married Celine Powell in Burlington, Iowa. He was employed as a plumber's apprentice for 2 years while working for his father and eventually took over the plumbing business of Fisher Plumbing and Heating. Years later he went to work for the Burlington School System. Stan was an avid hunter, boater, roller skater and bowler. In 1988 he was inducted into the American Bowling Congress Hall of Fame. He loved to dance and was a member of the Moose Lodge for many years. cy (Dan) Dvorsky of Rye Colorado, Pat (Mike) Clawson of Genoa City, Nebraska and Lynn (Charlie) Huss of Gladstone, Illinois; eight grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and special companion, Charlotte Peterson. Friends may call from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 29th in Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. The Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard will conduct Military Rites at 4:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. Fisher will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 30th in SS Mary and Patrick Catholic Church. The Very Rev. David Steinle will be the celebrant. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery In lieu of food or flowers, donations may be made in Stan's memory to Great River Hospice.
