Lois C. McElhinney, 84, of Danville, died Monday, June 15, 2015 at Great River Hospice House, West Burlington. She was born November 14, 1930 in Morning Sun, the daughter of Richard M. and Wilhemina Peters Smith. On June 10, 1949 she married Dale McElhinney in Morning Sun. He died March 7, 1991. She was a 1947 graduate of Morning Sun High School. Mrs. McElhinney was a homemaker. She also drove a school bus from 1971 - 1997 for the Danville Schools, she volunteered at the Danville Care Center and eventually went to work as the Activity Director, she volunteered at the Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center in Burlington, and helped her husband with the Danville Truck Line. She served a short stint on the Danville City Council in 1980. She was a member of Long Creek Methodist Church. She enjoyed playing cards, fishing, working puzzles, reading, collecting salt and pepper shakers and owls. She liked helping other people, especially sitting with the elderly in their homes, and dog sitting for friends. Kelli, Stacie, Jessica, Sara, and Todd; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, granddaughter Tonia, and three brothers Robert, Alfred and Orval; and one daughter-in-law, Maggie. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, June 18, 2015 at Elliott Chapel, New London. Pastor David Mixon will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Morning Sun. Visitation will begin after noon on Wednesday, June 17 at the Chapel, with the family greeting friends from 5:00 to 7:30 PM. Memorials have been established to the Danville Volunteer Fire Department and Great River Hospice House, West Burlington.
