Joan Marie Whitmore, 84, of Hampton, Iowa, passed away Sunday June 28, at the Franklin General Hospital in Hampton, Iowa. She was born March 11, 1931, to Clifford and Ruth (Crawford) Stayner in Hampton, Iowa. Joan grew up on farms near Chapin and Hampton. She started school in the fall of 1936 and graduated in 1947 from Hampton High School. After graduation Joan attended Hamilton Business College in Mason City. Joan worked at Farmers Hybrid, where she met Gerald (Whitey) Whitmore and she also worked for several businesses in Hampton. She was united in marriage on February 18, 1951, at the Methodist Church in Chapin, Iowa. She was a 50 year Rebecca Lodge member and a continued member of the Hampton Senior Center, American Legion Auxiliary and Hampton United Methodist Church. Joan enjoyed bowling, trips to Branson, Missouri, and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
