Donald "Don" Joseph Frank was born on May 31, 1928, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to the late Albert and Cecilia (Winker) Frank. He was baptized at a young age at St. Leo's Catholic Church in Milwaukee and later confirmed in that same church on May 20, 1940. Don received his early education at St. Leo's Catholic Church and later finished his education at Messner Catholic High School. In July of 1946, Don enlisted in the United States Amy and first served in the 82nd Airborne Division (paratroopers) and then was part of the 11th Constabulary Regiment in Germany, known as the "Circle C Cowboys" and was the last horse mounted combat patrol in US history patrolling the Zonal borders and based in Stuttgard, Germany. On September of 1947, Don was honorably discharged and returned to Milwaukee. In 1948, Don moved to Carroll, Iowa and on May 3, 1949, Don was united in marriage to Maxine Bayliss at St. Peter and Paul's Catholic Church in Carroll, Iowa. This union was blessed with four children Alan, Kent, Linda and Gail. In 1955, Don and Maxine moved to Windom where Don farmed for many years until retiring in 1983. , Don's health had been declining and he was placed in hospice in his home where he passed away peacefully, with his family at his bedside, at the age of 81. Don was a longtime member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Windom where he was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of the American Legion Post 206 in Windom. Don will be remembered for being a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Don is survived by his wife of sixty years, Maxine Frank of Windom; four children, Alan Frank of Fergus Falls; Kent Frank of Windom; Linda Unger of Worthington; Gail Barlow-Hulm of Windom; 8 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; one sister, Darleen Berkness of Fergus Falls; Garry Frank and his wife, Nancy, of Urbandale, IA; and many other relatives and friends. Frank is preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Michael Unger; and one sister, Fayetta Froze; one-daughter-in-law, Judy Frank.
