Carolyn "Kay" Jeanette Balzer

Mrs. Carolyn "Kay" Jeanette Balzer, 86, of West Burlington died at 7:50 p.m. Wednesday, August 12, 2015, at Great River Medical Center - Klein Center. Born June 17, 1929 in Burlington, she was the daughter of Clarence Edward and Lora Edna (Smith) Bright. On July 16, 1949 she married Robert M. Balzer in Kahoka, Missouri. Mrs. Balzer was a graduate of Burlington High School. She worked at Northwestern Cabinet Co., I.A.A.P. and was bookkeeper and manager of Zephyr Credit Union and Balzer Brothers, Inc. She was a member of West Burlington United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She collected green handled kitchenware and Raggedy Anns. She loved going to garage sales and flea markets, enjoyed her cats and loved her family. Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Robert M. Balzer of West Burlington; one daughter, Julie (Jim) Goudie of West Burlington; one son, Randy (Kathy) Balzer of West Burlington; three grandchildren, Michael Goudie, Ashley Goudie and Jennifer Hoenig; five step grandchildren, Dan, Teresa, Larry, Rich and Joe; four great grandchildren, Lillian Goudie, Gavin Goudie, Caleb Hoenig and Grace Hoenig; and sisters-in-law, Phyllis Hughes, Donna Hightower...[more]

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday, August 14th, at Lunning Chapel. The funeral service for Mrs. Balzer will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday, August 15th, at Lunning Chapel with the Rev. Joyce Proctor officiating. Interment will be in Prairie Grove Cemetery. Memorials have been established for West Burlington United Methodist Church and Des Moines County Humane Society. A luncheon will be served at West Burlington United Methodist Church following the committal service.
