She was born in Hamilton, Ohio on May 5th, 1923, the daughter of Henry J. and Lillian (Warning) Kern. She attended St. Veronica Elementary School and graduated from Hamilton High in 1941. Upon graduation she began a long banking career with the Second National Bank starting as a bookkeeper and ending in 1988 as the Bank's first female officer. On April 25th, 1946 she married John William "Bill" Vogel at St. Veronica Church and he preceded her in death on April 24, 2004. To this union two children were born; Kern W. Vogel (Linda) and Sam J. e active with the Notre Dame Tabernacle Group making vestments for needy postulates. Her social activities included: holding many offices with the Cooperative Service league; belonging to various art groups including the Sterling Silvers; playing cards with her many friends and with her Colonial At Home caregivers; and attending exercise classes with her friends at the Hamilton branch of Partners in Prime. She was a member of the St. Peter in Chains Church, Hamilton, Ohio, where services will be held on Saturday August 29th at 11:00 AM with Father Patrick McMullen, Celebrant. Visitation will be held Saturday from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the church. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park. The family would like to especially thank the Colonial At Home caregivers - Morgan, Susan (both) and Tamara for their kind and loving care provided to Betty Jane for the past 2 years.
