MIDDLETON - Bob Hickman, age 70, died Saturday morning September 5th as a result of ALS. He was born in Waukegan, IL on July 6, 1945. After the War the family moved to Milwaukee for one year and then to Madison in the fall of 1946. Bob attended Madison Public Schools including Dudgeon and Midvale Grade Schools; Cherokee Junior High; and graduated from West High School in 1963. He attended UW-Madison, UW-Whitewater, and graduated from Mississippi State University where he was a member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity. Following his college graduation he took graduate level business courses at UW- Madison. Bob served in the Army Reserve and worked for U.S. Steel in Chicago for two years before joining Xerox Corporation in Madison as a salesman, he retired as a sales manager. Throughout his career in Madison Bob was an apartment owner in the campus area. Bob enjoyed relaxing at his cabin in the north woods. He was an avid MSU Bulldogs fan as well as a Badgers and Packers fan. He was a skilled carpenter and could fix anything. At one time he was the State Light Heavyweight Powerlifting Champion. He is survived by his brother Jack (Margaret) Hickman of Oregon, WI and Singer Island, FL: their children Paul (Carrie) Hickman and their son Forge Robert Hickman (Bob's namesake) of Madison; and Brian Hickman of Oregon, WI; his sister, Mary Hickman Feeney (Jim) Feeney of Lawrence, KS; their children Pat Feeney (Gabe Iverson) and their daughter Vivian of Stevenson, WA; John Feeney of Lawrence, KS; Ann Feeney Briggs (Bill) and their children, Mae and Erin of Leawood, KS. Bob's family would like to extend a special "thank you" to a longtime friend of Bob's, Kerry O'Brien, who stood by him during his illness, and in addition to friendship assisted him with his apartment business, provided transportation so Bob cold get out of his house frequently and checked on him daily.
