Robert A. Snyder was born April 3, 1933 in Iowa City, Iowa to Adolph and Maebell Weitz Snyder. Bob grew up in Dubuque Iowa. He graduated from Dubuque Senior High School in 1953. He was considered a talented athlete, a short distance sprinter in track and in football he was a running back/receiver. In October 1953, Bob joined the Marines, "Semper Fi". He spent 3 years in the Korean Conflict and in Japan. After being discharged from the Marines he returned to Dubuque to work at the Container Factory now known as Georgia Pacific Industries. He retired from Georgia Pacific after 43 years of service, many of those years as a supervisor. Bob's father died when he was 14 years old, he assumed many responsibilities at a young age. One of his favorites was mowing the lawn. In his early years Bob had a special bond with his dogs, his first dog was named Pepper. Later he enjoyed his St. Bernard dogs, one of them named Ben enjoyed an occasional ice cream cone. e, IA; they had 4 sons, Robert A. II, Roy, Roger and Ron. Betty later died in 1985. Bob continued to work and attend his sons' graduations and weddings and welcomed many grandchildren. Bob was active member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Dubuque, were he was confirmed. He served on the Vestry Committee and various other positions within the church. Bob was active in the Boy Scouts of America. He was a troop leader for many years watching his sons grow up as Boy Scouts and later becoming Eagle Scouts. He spent many years with the Boy Scouts at camps and canoeing trips in Eastern Iowa. Camp Klaus at Coldsburg was his favorite where he shared many good times with his dear friends Chuck Golinvaux and Goug McGuiggin. Bob later met Rosemary Dornbier of Wesley, IA. They were married July 6, 1990 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Wesley, where they continued to live after his retirement. Bob enjoyed football. He and Rosemary attended many of the grandchildren's football games, either High School or College. Bob and Rosemary traveled extensively together during their retirement years, visiting all 50 states including Hawaii where his son Roger was stationed while in the Marines and Alaska. He enjoyed the 6 weeks traveling in their camper through the Canadian Provinces to Alaska. Bob and Rosemary traveled abroad to Iceland where they enjoyed visiting with friends. Later Bob and Rosemary parked the camper and began wintering in McAllen, Texas, where Bob enjoyed basking in the sun. Bob died Tuesday, September 22, 2015, at Kossuth Regional Health Center, Algona, at the age of 82. Bob will be remembered by his quick wit, sense of humor and his kindness to others. He is preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Betty. He is survived by his wife, Rosemary Snyder; sons, Robert (Nancy) Snyder, Waconda, IL., Roy (Cathy) Snyder, Rochelle, IL., Roger Snyder, Waconda, IL., Ron (Marilyn) Snyder, Dubuque, IA. and 6 grandchildren. Stepchildren, Doug (Theresa) Dornbier, Ocean Isle Beach, NC., Daniel (Aileen) Dornbier, Casper, WY, Dwight (Connie) Dornbier, Wesley, IA., David (Terry) Dornbier, El Dorado, CA., Dennis (Denise) Dornbier, West Des Moines, IA., Derwin (friend Joyce) Dornbier, Wesley, IA., Dean (Cherry) Salt Lake City, UT., Damon (Gina) Dornbier, Mason City, IA., Dale (Kim) Dornbier, Wesley, IA., Mary Katherine (Sam) DeAngelo, Indianola, IA., Anita (Dale) Studer, Creston, IA., Annette Davis, Los Angelos, CA., and Melinda (Matthew) Malloy, Oxford, IA., several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren and sister-in-law Joan Treivieler of Dubuque, IA.
