Eugene "Karny" Karnitz

Eugene C. Karnitz "Karny" Eugene Karnitz, of Port Washington, passed away in the morning hours of Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at Aurora Medical Center in Kenosha. He was 74 years old. Gene was born in Belgium on June 19, 1941, the youngest child of Frederick Karnitz and Viola Johnson Karnitz. He grew up in the Belgium area and attended high school in Port Washington, graduating with the class of 1959. Gene worked as a welder and shop foreman for Modern Equipment in Port Washington for many years. He loved playing golf, attending his grandchildren's school functions, woodworking and was a huge fan of all the Wisconsin sports teams, especially the Milwaukee Brewers. Gene loved being the "unofficial" greeter at Wal-Mart in Saukville where he enjoyed talking to everyone he met. He is survived by his three children: Chris (Mary) Karnitz of Port Washington, Stacey (Tim) Ross of Mount Pleasant and Debbie Karnitz of Port Washington. He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Doris (the late Harvey) Krueger and two brothers Robert (the late Gerry) Karnitz and Darryl Karnitz. A memorial service celebrating Gene's life will be held on Saturday, October 17th at 6 PM at the Eernisse Funeral Home, 1600 W. Grand Ave. in Port Washington. Pastor Don Drollinger will preside. Visitation will take place at the Funeral Home on the 17th from 4-6 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials suggested. The Eernisse Funeral Home, Port Washington is honored to serve the family.
