Gary L. Wichhart

Gary L. Wichhart, 77, of Rockford, Illinois and formerly of New London, died Saturday, November 14, 2015 in Rockford. Mr. Wichhart was born March 26, 1938 in Fairfield, Iowa, the son of Roy and Kathryn Pollock Wichhart. On May 26, 1985 he married Marcia Harper Nelling in Washington, Iowa. He was previously married to Judy Specht. He was of the Protestant faith. He worked as a tool and die maker at W. A. Sheaffer Pen Company in Ft. Madison, and in sales at the New London Coop, retiring in 2005. He was a 1957 graduate of Keosauqua High School and served in the Army in Berlin when the wall was built. Mr. Wichhart is survived by his wife of Rockford; five sons, Doug (Robin) Wichhart of North Liberty, Scott (Teresa) Wichhart of Mt. Pleasant, Mike (Dea) Nelling of Allerton, Christian (Amy) Nelling of Spring Valley, Illinois, and Jim (Misty) Dahring of Machesney Park, Illinois; seven grandchildren and one great-grandson; three sisters, Diane (Larry) Bartholomew and Rosemary (Ray) Charbonneau, both of Keosauqua, and Chris (Bob) Wiley of Lee's Summit, Missouri; and two grandpuppies, Molly and Maggie, aka Black Bart. A funeral service for Mr. Wichhart will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at Elliott Chapel, New London. Pastor Matt Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Burge Cemetery, New London with Military Rites presented by the Henry County Honor Guard. Visitation will begin after 9:00 AM on Wednesday, with the family greeting friends for one hour prior to the service. A memorial has been established to the Northern Illinois Hospice.
