Berdene Henrietta Steer, 93, of Allison, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, November 18, at the Rehabilitation Center of Allison where she had been a resident since March 2014.
She was born August 1, 1922, in rural Butler County, South West of Allison, Iowa. She was the youngest of six children born to Reiner and Dena (Frey) Rindels. Berdene attended rural schools and graduated 8th grade at a school near Fern, Iowa.
In 1938, she moved with her parents to an acreage in Allison. She held several jobs and met Harold Steer shortly before he entered the Army, Harold was discharged in 1945, and they were married on February 7, 1946, at the St. James Lutheran Church in Allison, Iowa. Berdene helped with the farm work. She was a very good cook and was very neat and particular in her house. About 1980, they rented the farm and moved into their new house in Allison.
They enjoyed traveling around the country and fishing in northern Minnesota.
Harold died April 23, 1997, Berdene continued to live in her home until moving to Elm Springs Assisted Living in November 2011, and from there to the care center.
