ittees. He graduated from Latimer High School in 1943 and started farming. He was inducted into the U.S. Navy and served on a destroyer in 1945 and 1946. Darrel was honorably discharged August 3, 1946, and returned to farming. On November 25, 1950, he married Norma Stratmann. They were blessed with four children, Jean, Kay, Tim and Steve. He continued farming while also being employed by Franklin County ASCS office, W. R. Grace Co. Feed and Fertilizer division, Latimer State Bank and Morgan Drive Away delivering Winnebago's. Darrel served on the Coulter Creamery Board, Farmers Grain and Coal Co. Board of Coulter and County 4-H Committee. He was a Little League coach, on the Coulter Fire Dept. and served as Hamilton Twp. clerk for 46 years. He enjoyed sports, golf, cards, watching his childrens, grandchildrens and great-grandchildrens events, working and helping others. He and Norma enjoyed spending the winters in Texas. Darrel is survived by daughters: Jean (Mike) Tomlinson, of Rockport, IN; and Kay Hinrichs, of Hampton; and sons: Tim (Joyce) Borcherding, of Coulter; and Steve (LaShell) Borcherding, of Latimer; grandchildren: Scott (Audrey Laffely) Tomlinson, Ryan (Ashley) Tomlinson, Lisa (Tim) Legg, Caleb Tomlinson, Jill (Clinton) Burmester, Kimberly (Micah) Jackson, Tom Hinrichs, Andrew (Kendra) Borcherding, Todd (Erika) Borcherding, Marc (Jessica) Borcherding, Cory Borcherding, Stephanie (Mitchell) Storby, Brandon (Casey) Fitz, and Matt McClemons (Savanah Draper); 20 great-grandchildren: James and Nathan Legg, Cael, Blaek and Wesley Burmester, Konnor and Parker Jackson, Olivia and Reese Borcherding, Aubrey, Austin and Charles Borcherding, Landon Prothero, Brycen and Cullen Borcherding, Brinley Storby, Brady, Bryer and Beckem Fitz and Sayda McClemons; and sister, Alice Schomburg of Latimer. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Norma, May 1, 2015, sister, Helen Hansen, brother, Raymond and an infant brother.
