Gaetano "Tommy" John DeVivo, age 96, of Spirit Lake, Iowa, formerly of Brooklyn, New York, and Stuart, Florida, passed away Saturday, January 2, 2016, at Hawkeye Care Center in Spirit Lake, Iowa. He was born on January 5, 1919, in Brooklyn, New York, to John and Carmella (Marano) DeVivo.
Gaetano worked at the Brooklyn Navy Yard from 1939 to 1954 and as a plumber and master electrician in Brooklyn and Florida. He was a jack-of-all-trades. He enjoyed working and doing woodworking.
Gaetano is survived by daughters, Carmella (David) Simmons of Brooklyn, New York, Elizabeth (Bob) Castagna of Stuart, Florida, and Vivian (Charlie) Grunbaum of Jensen Beach, Florida; son, John DeVivo of Stuart, Florida; sixteen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and sisters, Lucy, Vera, Terry, and Lizzy.
Gaetano was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, wife, Nettie DeVivo, brothers, Alfoneso, Louie, and Jimmy; and sisters, Mary and Helen.
A funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, Janaury 11, 2016, at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church, 2555 NE Savanna Rd, Jensen Beach, Florida, 34957.
