William Greene James Paton

Paton, William Greene James, age 88, of Delray Beach, FL, formerly of Ft. Lauderdale, passed away Saturday, January 2, 2016 at Delray Medical Center Hospice. Bill was born March 13, 1927 in Cranston, RI to Douglas H. and Emeline M. (Bennett) Paton. Bill was a graduate of Fork Union Military Academy in Virginia and a Navy Veteran of WWII. He retired as a Captain with the Fort Lauderdale Fire Department in 1977. Bill then worked for Broward County Fire Department, retiring again as Chief in 1996. He was also fire safety instructor at Broward Fire College. Bill owned and operated a painting company and was a charter boat captain for many years. Bill was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Fort Lauderdale. He was an active member of Firemen's Benevolent Association, the local chapter of the IAFF, Firemen's Union and was a past member of the Navy League. Survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary B. Paton; children Vicki, Janet and Scott, Nancy, Douglas and Starr and Mary Anne and Tony; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and sister, Marcela Eager.
