Donald Dean Meier

Donald Meier, 88, of Tipton, passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by his loving family, Friday, January 8th, 2016. Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, January 13, 2016, at 11:00 am, First United Church of Christ, Tipton. Inurnment will be at a later date. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 12, from 4:00-7:00 pm, Fry Funeral Home, Tipton. A memorial fund in Don's honor has been established. Online condolences may be shared at www.fryfuneralhome.com. On February 2, 1927, Donald was born in rural Clarence to George and Velma (Horn) Meier. He attended Clarence High School, before entering the U.S. Navy where he served in World War II. On leave from his deployment, Don came home and married the love of his life, Genevieve (Mente) Meier, on July 6, 1947. They raised 6 children together on a farm West of Tipton, where Don farmed until he retired in the early 1990's before becoming a crop adjuster. Don was a very proud Veteran and was honored to be chosen for the Honor Flight in 2011. He was a member of the First United Church of Christ in Tipton. He also enjoyed traveling and fishing, and was an avid Hawkeye and Cubs fan. Family was certainly Don's pride and joy, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Don is survived by his wife, daughter, Jill (Brad) Gaul; sons, Jim (Judy) Meier, Jerry Meier, Jeff (Vickie) Meier, Joel Meier, Jay (Viki) Meier; sister, Marlene (Merle) Cooper; 17 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Duane and Kenneth and granddaughter, Amanda Mae Meier.
