ached and taught at St. John's Bancroft Catholic School, as well as farmed with the family. In the summer of 1988 Eugene accepted a position as curriculum director at Bishop Garrigan Catholic School. During his time at Bishop Garrigan he served as Business Manager, Principal and President (he was the first lay President). In addition, he served on the State Nursing Board, an appointment from Governor Branstad. He was proud to have served in Catholic Schools the last 34 years in Education before retiring in 2013. Eugene was very proud of all the young men he mentored and coached. He accomplished some amazing things in his coaching career: 2 state baseball championships, 11 state appearances, several conference and district championships and ended up with 976 wins. He was inducted into the Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1996 and received several Coach of the Year awards for Districts, State and CYO. Eugene enjoyed farming, traveling, hiking in the Colorado Mountains, activities at school and spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. He was faith-filled as he read daily prayer, biblical reflections and Liturgy of the Hours. For years he and Mary Ann had a Chapel hour at St. Cecelia Parish. As a family, Gene was able to get them to 2 Papal Masses with John Paul II. Eugene died on Monday, February 22, 2016 at KRHC in Algona, surrounded by his loved ones, at the age of 68 after a courageous 6 ½ year battle with cancer. Survivors include his wife of 46 years Mary Ann. Son Robert and Wendi and their children Andrew, Mackenzie, Madison and Bailey. Son Mark and Jennifer and their children Bradley and Audrey. Brother William (Shirley) and son Ken. Sister-in-law Linda (Don) Agostine and sons Brett, Corey and Dennis. Brother in law Earl (Carol) Goetz and children Greg, Troy, Susan and Jeff. Sister in law Sr. Mary Janet Goetz. Brother in law Mark (Mary) Goetz, sister in law Jean (Jeff) Bergo and their children Rhea, Jeff and Jonathan. He was preceded in death by his son Bradley Eugene (2002), his parents Bernard and Thelma, his brother Dennis and In Laws Phillip and Lorrine Goetz.
