Robert "Bob" Palmer

Robert "Bob" Phillips Palmer was born on a farm south of Algona at the "top of the hill" on September 28, 1929 to Paul and Erma (Phillips) Palmer. He had four brothers and two sisters. Bob was never married but had many nieces and nephews. He attended school in Algona until graduating in 1949. When Bob was young he enjoyed making light weight model air-planes that flew by using a rubber band. As he got older he enjoyed fishing on the Des Moines River. He also enjoyed attending car races and helping his mother garden. Bob lived in Algona most of his life. He enlisted in the Navy on September 29, 1951 in Des Moines, Iowa. Bob was a second class petty officer during the Korean War from 1951 to 1955. Bob had many other jobs throughout his lifetime. He delivered milk, drove truck and hauled gravel for Kossuth County, worked for Schultz Auto as a "grease monkey" and mechanic, and cared for his parents in later years. Bob died Friday, March 25, 2016 at the Algona Manor Care Center. He was 86. He is survived by his brothers, Leo and Charles Palmer; Nieces, Gail Carroll, L.
