Joan Klar McAllister

Joan Klar McAllister, 80, died 10:25 p.m. Friday, January 1, 2010 at the Great River Medical Center Klein Unit. Born April 8, 1929 she was the daughter of Melvin E. and Helen E. Darrell Nelson. She was a graduate of Burlington High School, Burlington Junior College and the University of Northern Iowa. She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church where she served with the Mary Elizabeth Circle. Mrs. McAllister was a teacher for the Burlington School System for 38 years until her retirement in 1988. She was a member of the D.A.V.A, AARP, Burlington Federated Womens Club and the Des Moines County Teachers Association. She was preceded in death by her parents. The funeral services for Ms. McAllister will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 5th at Messiah Lutheran Church. The Rev. Susanne Smith will officiate. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the services on Tuesday at Messiah Lutheran Church. A memorial has been established for Messiah Lutheran Church. [more]
