George began working and stocking shelves before the grand opening. George and Jeanne moved to Spencer in 2001, and he was a familiar welcoming face at the front door of Walmart from 1999 - 2014. George was a member of the United Methodist Church in Mallard where he would volunteer to usher and work funerals at the church. He was an avid participant and sports fan. He truly loved to compete, and more than that, he loved to watch his children and grandchildren play sports throughout their careers. George enjoyed the outdoors, exercising and working, but more than anything, he treasured the time he spent with his family. He was an honest, loyal and hardworking man who will truly be missed by those that knew and loved him. On Friday, April 22, 2016, George passed away at Parc Hall in Emmetsburg. Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Jeanne of Emmetsburg; four children: Jeanine Hough (Rod) of Graettinger, Mark Johnson (Nancy) of Havelock, Jeanelle Stokes (Dan) of Mallard and Marlin Johnson (Dee) of Madison, WI; 13 grandchildren: Jeanna Gutierrez (Javier), Kyle Hough (Kristi), Todd Hough (Jenny), Lucas Hough (Kendra), Courtney Drake (Halley), Alex Sikora (Aprile), Ryan Stokes (Lori), Scott Stokes (Sarah), Jerrod Stokes, Crystal Boes (Ryan), Melissa Johnson, Ben Johnson and Katie Johnson; and 22 great-grandchildren. George was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother, Harlan; two sisters: June Lottridge (Ed) and Marge Mahan (Wilmer); granddaughter, Janna Hough, great-grandson, Myles Stokes and step-mother, Minnie Johnson. "See ya on the funny paper," George
