Mary Louise Sutphin 84, Indianapolis, departed August 16, 2006. Born in 1921 in a farmhouse in Young America, Indiana to Charles and Bernice Platt, Mary Louise Sutphin moved to Indianapolis after World War II and worked for the investment firm of Hemphill, Noyes where she met and married the late Dudley V. Sutphin on July 16, 1949. Sister to legendary basketball coach Joe Platt, who led the Kokomo Wildcats to a state title in 1961, Mary Lou was an accomplished golfer, playing courses throughout the world. Locally, she won several titles, including first-place finish in the Country Club of Indianapolis 1956 Golf Derby. She was a member of the Woodstock Country Club and Crooked Stick Golf Club, where she and her husband were charter members. With a history of community service, Mary Louise was a life trustee of the Indianapolis Museum of Art, life member of the Garden Club of Indianapolis and a long-time member of the Progressive Club, Junior League and the Dramatic Club of Indianapolis.
