Donald L. Hale, 71, passed away March 17, 2007. He was the son of the late Alfred and Thelma Hale. He grew up in Indianapolis and was a graduate of Shortridge High School. He then worked for his parents in the family grocery store business. Don had a love for driving and after serving in the National Guard, he returned to Indianapolis where he began driving oil delivery trucks for Metropolitan Oil and Wilson Oil Co. He then became a transport driver for Pure Oil Co./Union 76 Oil Co. where he met his wife Susie and were married in June of 1967. He eventually became the Director of Transportation for the Washington Township School System for 24 years before retiring in 1998. Even after retirement, he continued to drive a school bus for Washington Township Schools (especially for the North Central High School cheerleaders) and the Bureau of Jewish Education. He was a member of the East 91st Street Christian Church, the White River Yacht Club, the American Legion, the Circle City Corvette Club, and the B.A.B.I. Motorcycle Club. sie (Spurlin) Hale and his daughter, Jennifer K. Sneed (Wayne). He was preceded in death by his son, Steven Spurlin Hale. Family and friends will gather Wednesday from 3 to 8 pm in the Leppert Mortuary, Nora Chapel, 740 E. 86th Street, Indianapolis. Funeral services will be Thursday, March 22, at 11:00 am in the mortuary with visitation at 10 am until the time of service.
