950 Rex met and married Barbara Gwin, a marriage that survived until Barbara?s death in 1999. It was a marriage full of commitment and love that even Barbara?s death could not break. In the early 1960?s Rex began what turned out to be a long tenure with the Frankovitz family who operated the Florida Fish and Poultry Market located at 56th Street and Illinois. Rex was the meat manager of the Florida Fish and Poultry Market where he brought a personal touch and style in doing business the old fashion way. He built up quite a clientele of customers that included many of Indianapolis? most prominent citizens. In 1979 the Florida Fish and Poultry Market closed forever and Rex was recruited by a life long friend, Joe O?Malia, to work in Joe?s College Avenue retail store where he worked until his retirement in 1985. A 50 year resident of Carmel, Rex moved to California in 2001 to spend his remaining years with his family. His passions included quiet time with his family, watching sunsets, caring for the local wildlife both in Carmel and California, walks in the woods, riding his John Deere tractor around his Carmel property, riding the powered shopping carts around Lowes, reading, working the daily crossword puzzle and being a loving grandfather. Rex led a life filled with purpose and dignity and left a legacy for his family to cherish. We lost a simple but kind and gentle man whose spirit will be with us forever. This world could use a few more like him. He?s now in a better place with his savior, Jesus Christ. The funeral service will be held in the Leppert Mortuary, Smith Carmel Chapel on Saturday, May 12, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. with calling beginning at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in the Carmel Cemetery.
