ey could handle whatever job needed doing. June was the first woman ever to be elected as Elder at First Christian Church in Bloomington, IL. She served for several years on the board of the Barton W. Stone Home in Jacksonville, IL. June was recognized a year ago as one of only thirteen women to have attend all of the women?s Quadrennial Assemblies of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), beginning in 1957. Twice, the church sent June and her husband abroad as Fraternal Delegates. In 1964, they spent a month working to foster relationships between British and American churches. Again in 1976, they visited churches in Kenya, South Africa, Zaire, and Liberia, meeting with a number of African leaders, including Desmond Tutu. Once her family was grown, June?s passion became health and nutrition. For two decades, she followed a regimen known as Natural Hygiene, spending hours each day to ensure that she and Jack ate carefully-planned diets of raw fruits, nuts, seeds, and vegetables. As she became more proficient, she began to host support groups and informational seminars for others trying to master this discipline. June?s long life of service will be celebrated at 4:00 p.m. Monday at Westview Christian Church. There will be a calling time at the church from 2:00 to 4:00. Memorials may be sent to Christian Church Foundation, Inc., P.O. Box 1986, Indianapolis IN 46206-1986, or to Pension Fund of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 130 E. Washington St., Indianapolis IN 46204-3659.
