Marion Shafer Helmen, a loving wife, mother and grandmother died on September 20, 2007, after a courageous battle against cancer. She was 74 years old. Marion, a nurse from Torrington, Wyoming, was preceded in death by her parents, Grace and Ralph Shafer and her brother John Shafer. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Charles Helmen who, 52 years ago married Marion and brought her to Indianapolis. She is also survived by 5 children, Randall (Linda Olvey) Helmen, Kim (John) Luber, Joan (Jay) Mercer, Caryn (Steve) Sundling and Dr Matt (Megan Alerding) Helmen; 14 grandchildren, Claire Helmen, Zachary, Casey and Anna Luber, Eric and Amy Mercer, Max and Charlie Truelove, Joe and Julia Sundling and Jake, Lauren, Jenna and Connor Helmen. Marion?s love of art led her to many years of service at the Indianapolis Museum of Art where, among other things, she volunteered in the Museum Shop. She spent her life raising her children and spoiling her grandchildren. She loved to spend summers at Lake Wawasee and traveling the world with her husband.
