Rita Hennessy

Rita Connor Hennessy passed away in San Ramon, California on October 9 after having suffered a stroke the previous evening. She was 90 years old and entered her eternal rest with numerous children and grandchildren by her side. Rita had been an active member of Christ the King parish for over 61 years, where she enjoyed performing with the drama club and singing with the Resurrection choir. After spending her last three years in San Ramon, California where five of her children live nearby, Rita will be coming home to Indianapolis where she will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband of 50 years, Richard J. Hennessy. Rita was a loving mother to Richard Hennessy of Weisbaden, Germany; Kathleen Hanson of San Jose, California; Thomas B. Hennessy of Sacramento, California; Ann Hennessy, who died in Strasbourg, France on September 24 after a long battle with cancer; Susan Hennessy, who died in childhood in 1956; Peg Hennessy of Ann Arbor, Michigan; Barbara Reese of San Carlos, California; Joan Kline of Mountain View, California; James Nicholas Hennessy of Cincinnati, Ohio; and Lisa Pournia of Danville, California. he is also survived by her loving sister and brother, Joan Connor Muller and James A. Connor, both of Indianapolis. After her husband?s retirement in 1980, Rita decided to satisfy her passion for flowers and went to work part-time for McNamara Florist, where she remained into her eighties. While there she enjoyed the beautiful floral ambiance and the interaction with co-workers and clients and entered into the computer era. All of Rita?s surviving children and many of her grandchildren welcome family and friends to attend a visitation on Friday, October 19th from 4:00-8:00 P.M. at Leppert Mortuary, Nora Chapel, 740 E. 86th Street in Indianapolis. A funeral Mass to give thanks for the lives of Rita and her beloved daughter Ann will be celebrated at Christ the King Church on October 20th at 10:00 A.M. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
