Richard Hall M.D.

Richard Hall Childress, M.D., age 79, of Indianapolis passed away at home on January 1, 2008. He was born March 13, 1928 in Goodland, IN to the late Johnson and Mildred Childress. He was a graduate of Indiana University Medical School in 1958. He was a Professor Emeritus at the Indiana University School of Medicine and for several years enjoyed his tenured position on the admissions committee for the school of medicine. He will be remembered for his love of his patients and his passion for teaching. For his teaching, he was awarded The Indiana University Department of Medicine Lifetime Education Award and several Golden Apple Awards for Outstanding Teaching. He practiced cardiology at the Veterans Administration Hospital for forty-two years and will be remembered as a caring, quiet, and dedicated humanitarian. He is survived by his wife, Esther and his four children, Linda (Jerry) Hochstetler, John (Dawn), Robert (Kimberly) and Richard (Alex) Childress as well as thirteen grandchildren; Martina, Ali, Ben, Hanna, Paul, Adam, Noah, Sam, Abby, Adam, Ethan, Leah and Laurel. A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 5 in the Robertson Chapel at St. Luke United Methodist Church. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 4 at the Leppert Mortuary, Nora Chapel, 740 E. 86th Street, Indianapolis and from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service on Saturday at the church.
