Dr. Richard A. Brickley beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother passed away peacefully while surrounded by his family and friends on Wednesday, January 30, 2008 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, IN. Richard (Dick) was born and raised in Bluffton, IN in 1925 and lived his adult life in Indianapolis. Richard attended Indiana and Northwestern Universities for his undergraduate and medical degrees. He completed his surgery training at Cook County Hospital in Chicago. He was an Air Force Flight Surgeon serving as Captain at Ben Guerir Air Force base in Morocco during the Korean Conflict. Richard practiced General Surgery in Indianapolis. He joined the practice of the late Drs. Willis Gatch, John E. Owen and Loren Schmidt. They were later joined by Richard?s brother Harry Brickley M.D. During his time in practice he was Chief of Surgery at Methodist Hospital and Winona Hospital as well as was Chief of Staff at Winona Hospital. and Who?s Who in America. Richard was a friend to many and a stranger to no one: an avid photographer, fisherman, hunter, a lover of jazz music and lively discussions about politics. He was known for his great sense of humor. Richard lived a full and beautiful life and was loved by many. Richard was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Raymond Brickley and parents, Dr. and Mrs. Harry Dwight Brickley. He is survived by his wife Suzanne, children Dinah Marie Olson (Allan), Sarah Jane Brickley (Gavin), Richard Agar Brickley II, Laura Brickley Wakeley (Peter), Andrew John Brickley (Shelita); step son, Michael Naud; brother, Harry Dwight Brickley; sister, Diann Brickley Balaguras (Nicholas J.), and grandchildren Daniel, Katherine, Ethan, Gabrielle, Nicole, Niam, Maala and Saia and a great many friends and family. Visitation will be Monday, February 4, 2008 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Leppert Mortuary, Nora Chapel 740 E. 86th Street, Indianapolis. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 5, 2008 at the mortuary followed by a 2:00 p.m. graveside service at Fairview Cemetery in Bluffton, IN.
