James E. Mealer, Sr., 70, of Indianapolis died on April 1, 2009. He was born to T. Claude and Ella (Johnson) Mealer in Red Bud, GA on July 4, 1938. James served in the U.S. Army for 25 years retiring in 1976. James was a Mason, a supporter of the Boy Scouts of America and was awarded the Purple Heart. In 2000, he retired from Hill-Rom Charleston. A respected man who was always quick with humor, compassion and friendship, James will be greatly missed. James is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Gulcan C. Mealer, his children Suzan Mealer Stadler Bussey (son-in-law Gary Bussey), James (Cemo) E. Mealer, Jr. (preceded in death) and Candice Mealer Thompson (son-in-law Gerry Thompson), grandsons Sean Stadler, James Thompson and Jack Thompson, brothers Jerry and Tommy Mealer, and many cherished family and friends all over the world.
