James Hugh Wharton 84, of Indianapolis, passed away July 1, 2009. He was born February 17, 1925 in Glasgow, Scotland to the late John and Alice Mary (Cameron) Wharton. Hugh was educated at the Wartime Civilian Schoolin Skegness, England, the S. W. Essex Technical College in Walthamstow, England, the Royal Navy Radar School and Cambridge CASM. He proudly served as an officer in the Armed Forces of the Crown. Hugh owned and operated his own company, Vistarama Limited and retired from RCA. Mr. Wharton was a recipient of the David Sarnoff Outstanding Achievement Award and the Promotion and Progress of Science Patent Award at RCA. He was a member of the Society of Motion Picture Television Engineers (SMPTE). He was a boating enthusiast and an automotive and mechanical mechanism aficionado, he also enjoyed the preservation and recording of old selected movies and constructing quarter scale steam engines (4-6-2) and cars of which there is now an exhibit in the Illinois Greenville Museum. His wife, Thelma Wharton preceded him in death. His brother, Iain Wharton survives and resides in London, England. A service, in celebration of Hugh's life will be conduc...[more]
