Steve passed away peacefully on August 21, 2009, after a long illness, at the age 74. He will be remembered as a loving son, father, husband and grandfather and for his devotion to his craft as an attorney. He was born to Glennie (nee: Vandivier) and Yandell Cooperider Cline on December 10, 1934, in Columbus, Indiana. He had a blessed childhood as the youngest brother of two adoring sisters in Columbus where he achieved the Eagle Scout rank; he later became a Scout Master in Indianapolis. Steve was a proud member of Sigma Chi fraternity at DePauw University, graduating in 1956. Following graduation, he served in the United States Air Force. He graduated from the Indiana University School of Law, passing the bar in 1963. He joined the law firm of Roberts & Ryder specializing in labor and employment law and opened his own practice in 1972. He was a formidable negotiator on behalf of his clients to whom he was very devoted. It was with great sadness that he gave up his practice when his health prevented him from providing his best legal counsel to his clients. Steve married Sandra Brock Cline in 1980 and lived many happy years in Zionsville where they owned the Zionsville Times Sentinel, and he grew tasty tomatoes. He is preceded in death by his sister Barbara Cline Martin and brother Alan Cline; he is survived by his wife Sandra, sister Cynthia Cline Roberts (Bill), daughters Eleanor Cline Trent (Bob), Dr. Emily Cline, and Margaret Cline Curl (Mike), and two grandchildren, Meredith and Oliver Trent. Both visitation, Tuesday, August 25, 4 pm to 7 pm, and funeral, Wednesday, August 26, 3 pm, are at Holy Family Episcopal Church in Fishers. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Family Episcopal Church in Fishers or Paws & Think, 8206 Dean Road, Indianapolis.
