George Deck had a wonderful life, rich in family, dear friends and great golf games. Born Aug. 3, 1923 to Mayme and George Deck, he grew up in Indianapolis, attended School 66 and Shortridge HS. An active Boy Scout, he earned his Eagle in 1937. George graduated from IU with a B.S. degree, was a member of the Sphinx Club and president of Sigma Chi fraternity. In 1948, he married the love of his life, Barbara Wilkins, and they had three daughters, Laura, Pam and Nancy. He had an outstanding first career managing linen supply companies. Mid-life, he started a second career as a Commercial Realtor with Alig & Associates, Frisch & Associates, Harding Dahm & Company, and most recently Grubb and Ellis. Well regarded in the industry, he continued working until the last week of his life. Through the years, George was a director of the Indianapolis Jaycees, Indianapolis Boys Club, Indianapolis Contemporary Club and chairman of the IU Foundation 50-year Campaign. He was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rite and Sigma Chi, and a 35-year member of Junto. was a member of Highland Country Club, winning several tournaments there, and Meridian Hills, serving on the board of each. In October 2009, George would have celebrated 80 years as a member of Tabernacle Presbyterian Church, where he served as Deacon, Elder and chairman of the Trustee Board. Known for his love of people, his integrity and his humor, he lived his dream -- to be active until his last few days. He is survived by his adored wife and daughters; sons-in-law Tom Cunningham, Mark Albrecht and Kent Mutchmore; and grandchildren Andrew Cunningham; Morgan, Matt (wife Chelby) and Michael Albrecht; and Paige and Carter Mutchmore. A celebration of George?s life will be held Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009, at 1 p.m. at Tabernacle Presbyterian Church, 418 E. 34th Street, Indianapolis. Friends are invited to call between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. in the church parlor. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Tabernacle Presbyterian.
