John Edward Hanley, 84 of Indianapolis, died in his sleep after a long illness on October 28, 2009. He was born January 18, 1925 in Indianapolis to William and Frances Hanley. John was a graduate of St. Joan of Arc and Cathedral High School, Class of 1942. He was a radio operator in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He retired, after many years, from Collins Leasing. John was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Nora Sertoma, and a past commander of the Robert E. Kennington American Legion Post 34. He is survived by his wife, Marie; sons John II (Joy) and Michael (Ceil) Hanley; sister Helen (John) Smith; and 7 grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Cathedral High School.
