Michael David Fansler 86, of Indianapolis, passed away August 15, 2010. He was born August 19, 1924, in Logansport, IN, to Dr. George and Mae Fansler. He played basketball at Logansport High School and was voted an Indiana All-Star in 1942. He was the first freshman varsity basketball player at Harvard University, which he attended until he enlisted in the Naval Air Corps as a pilot in World War II. After the war he returned to Harvard and received his undergraduate degree. He attended University of Michigan Law School and received his law degree from Indiana University in 1952. The same year he married Patricia Wilcox from Grand Rapids, MI, and they moved to Indianapolis, where he joined the law firm of Fansler, Fauvre, Dongus, and Chambers. He later was a division manager for Waddell & Reed, Inc., and a real estate broker for Kothe & Rogers. Michael formerly was a member of the University Club, the Athletic Club, Crooked Stick Golf Club, and Woodstock Club, and was a vice president of the Downtown Lions Club. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Patricia; daughters Katie Fansler, Susan (Michael) Donoghue, and Julia (Philip) Wade; and grandchildren Nina and Torrey Donoghue, and Christopher, Caroline, and Katherine Wade. Burial was by private interment at Crown Hill Cemetery. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at Second Presbyterian Church at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 21. Calling will be from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the church.
