Phil was honored with the ?Hall of Fame? award by CHS Alumni Assn, received the ROSA award by Carmel Rotary in 1997, a member of Carmel Bicentennial Committee in 1976, Carmel Sesquicentennial Committee in 1987 and a charter member of Carmel Clay Historical Society. December 19, 2004 was proclaimed Phil and Nancy Hinshaw Day in Carmel by the Mayor. In 1987 he wrote and published a history of Carmel titled The Heritage of Carmel, Ind. He was a member of Carmel Cemetery Board for many years and was honored and proud to place American flags on all the Veteran?s graves in six local cemeteries for Memorial Day from the age of five until 2005. Phil was plant manager of Color Craft Corp in Indianapolis for 25 years. As an avid collector of antiques and junque, he and Nancy owned the Heritage of Carmel Antique and Flower Shop for 25 years. One of his greatest joys was fishing in the Bountry waters with his good friend Smitty. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Ruth Jean Brechbill, and son-in-law, Brad Smith. Services will be Thursday, February 17th at Leppert Mortuary, Smith Carmel Chapel with calling at 11:00 a.m. and service at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be at the Carmel Cemetery. Recipients of memorial tributes might be Humane Society of Hamilton or Brown County, Jackson Township Volunteer Fire Department in Nashville, Carmel Christian Church, or Carmel Clay Historical Society.
